z-5500

I currently use the x-540 and to me they sound great for the 360. Would it be worth upgrading to the Z series? Any big difference between these 2 speakers?z-5500
Sorry to sound dumb, but are both of these5.1 systems?z-5500
i think this is in the wrong forum board. you'll probably get a better answer in the hardware board.
the z-5500 is so expensive partly cuz it sounds so amazingly awesome but also it works as a standalone receiver for 5.1 you plug your optical cable directly into it, bypassing the need for a fancy expensive receiver.

i was looking into it with the same dilemma. i have the same speaker system that you do. it's a great system. got it for $40. i could either sell it and pay $250 for the z-5500 or buy a receiver.. both were expensive.

I ended up buying a Creative Extigy external soundcard off ebay for $40. The amazing thing about this sound card is that it works as a standalone receiver with optical input and output into the Front/Back/Center-Sub jacks. And the sound quality will be on par with most expensive receivers

look into it. my xbox is hooked up to my 540 speakers now with the extigy and it sounds amazing!
i have the Z-5500 and they are the best surround system i have owned, i have it hooked to my 360 throu an optical cord and you hear things in music you wouldnt even hear with headphones.

Yes, there both 5.1.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look into it. Could end up saving me $200+.

Forgot to ask, what exactly do you have? I'm not to familiar with these receiver stuff since this would be my first time owning one lol.

great single player games

I've had a 360 for a while now and most of the games I own are multiplayer focused, like Halo or Modern Warfare but I have been looking for a game with a really good single player mode and story. I've played Dead Space and Bioshock and enjoyed both and was wondering if you guys could recommend any others. I don't really care for RPGs though so something like Fallout or Fable 2, both of which I did try to play would be out. Thanks.

Assasins ending (spoilers)

I didn't understand the ending for assasins creed, I thougt it was left open for the sequal but now I find out that there is goin to be a new hero instead of altahir. So am I missing something? Cause I remember the game ending when I went into the room and den all these writings came up and done. i'm lost , so can someone fill me up I already sold that game so I don't want to play it again for a different ending. So yeah someone want to tell me what exactly happens?

Good Hack and Slash Game for the 360

I'm looking for a fun hack and slash rpg for the 360 console that i can play offline with friends. Sorta lookin gfor a D%26D type game with classes and such, I've tried Too Human Demo and all the reviews for it seemed 'meh' so idk about it. Anyone know of any good games?Good Hack and Slash Game for the 360
Well they dont really have classes, but Devil May Cry 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 are both excellent!Good Hack and Slash Game for the 360
i'll take those into mind thanks! btw those aren't anything like oblivion are they? because honestly i tried really really hard to like oblivion but i just haaated the combat so i could never really enjoy how huge the game was.
Well if you want pure hack and slash than a dynasty warrior game or N3, but i think you are really looking for Too Human. The reviewers may have said meh, but that doesn't mean it WILL be meh for you (it could still, but maybe not). The game has classes like you want and it total hack and slash. Also only Dynasty warrios can be played offline with friends. N3 has no multiplayer and Too Human has online only mp. But playing a Dynasty warrior now is like playing the same game as Dynasty Warrior 1. No real classes (different weapons do have different attacks), not a real story (or a good one), and technology wise it really hasn't advanced for a long time. I mean N3 could have over a hundred (way over) guys on screen at once, but Dynasty Warriors is still stuck at the like 30 guy limit...
IMO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The Arcade) and Ninja Gaiden 2 are the best hack n' slash games on the 360.Hey I could have lied and said Oneechanbara. lol.
Games I have that come to mind: Dynasty Warriors (any), Fable 2, Infinite Undiscovery, Ninety-Nine Knights and Overlord. These are the closest things that come to mind, as far as hack-and-slash. Drakengard for the ps2 was a great game also, imo.
does too human upgrade different spells/skills and such as you progress? I think i might rent it out and try it the only other game ive been thinking of is kingdom under fire and that got blasted too, guess il rent both b4 i buy em
Wait for May 1st an pick up wolverine. gonna be bloody and great
Ninja Gaiden 2 and Ninety Nine Nights
Well they dont really have classes, but Devil May Cry 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 are both excellent!
Agreed!!!!

Well they dont really have classes, but Devil May Cry 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 are both excellent!
Agreed!!!!
They are excellent, but they are both singleplayer only.
too human ;)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance might be what you're looking for. It's all hacknslash, limited character development, and great for offline coop. No classes and single player is pretty lame tho
Warriors Orochi
ninja gaiden2 devil may cray4 N3
the only ones i can think of that you can play with freidns are Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Castle Crashers in the arcade... I would go with Castle Crashers if I had to choose one of those...
I love the Dynasty Warriors series and Samurai Warriors. You should have a look at any of them.
wait till D3 comes out and get that for the PC ;)
what about viking: battle for asgard? i never really played it or heard that much about it. anyone know what it was like?
I really enjoyed Too Human and got a lot of hours of fun out of it. It isn't perfect, but deserved a better score than the reviews gave it. When it came out it was the ''cool thing'' to bash Too Human, hence a load of meh reviews. The best advice is to try the demo and base your decision whether to buy on the demo. Anyway the game has fallen rapidly in price, and can easily be found for under 10 pounds in the UK.

Why isn't my Lost and Damned starting?

I got a new 360 today, transfered all of my licenses... at first it started fine... but just now I deleted all of my save games so I could start over, and now it just starts the normal game instead of my Lost and Damned... any ideas?

    Outrun Online Arcade is OUT!

Outrun Online Arcade is out! Its only 800 points ($10) and is not overpriced like a lot of recent XBLA titles. Try out the trial demo, I never played the original before, or the one on Xbox, but the trial really sold me. Thoughts?Outrun Online Arcade is OUT!
I don't have a chance to play the demo now. But, I saw a video of it and it looks pretty good. Reminds me of the old arcade racers I used to play back in the 90's.Outrun Online Arcade is OUT!
Honestly, I didn't like it in the least. I was totally disappointed with the driving mechanics :(

Will Nyko Tempsmart intercooler fix 2 re ...

So here's what has been happening with my console. I bought it in December of 2007. I had in inside of a cabinet ever since I owned it, with no overheating or red lights until yesterday. Then all of a sudden, it shut off while I was playing yesterday, with the two red lights flashing. So I let it cool overnight, inside the cabinet. I was able to play for an hour before it shut off again. So, I took it out of the cabinet and let it cool in the open for three hours. However, I played for ten minutes before it shut off again. I called someone at Microsoft, and they said that it was a problem with the internal thermostat. Since the console warranty has expired, it would cost $100 to get the thermostat repaired. If I buy the new Nyko temperature smart fan, will it fix the problem? I have heard that intercoolers in the past have caused burns on the console, but I have also heard that this newer one works well. I just want to know whether buying it will replace the malfunctioning internal thermostat. Will Nyko Tempsmart intercooler fix 2 re ...
I have heard that the new Nyko coolers actually do work, but all things considered, I'd just buy a new Arcade one. You get another full warranty on it, plus a cooler chip inside.

    question about oblivion goty

ive had the game for as long as ive had my 360. but i never tried the expansions because ive never had a hard drive. im thinking of getting a 20gb hard drive for my 360. but i dont knoe if thats enuff. so my question is, how much space do the expansions take up?question about oblivion goty
Total is 1.1 GB I think. I have a 20 HDD and it works fine for that.

    New Fable 2 DLC!!

What do u guys think about the coming fable 2 dlc. I didnt think Knothole island was worth 800 microsoft, it only had 3 quests and just a small new map, i dont like fallout 3 buts the dlc for that game is great it added many hours of game unlike fable just gave me 2 hours the most. Besides it only has 100 point achivement. Hope they make it better than before

finally a date for banjo tooie

not 100% sure how credible joystiq.com is but here you golinkfinally a date for banjo tooie
it's obviously correct because it seems like Rare made the announcement. I thought I once heard that they were pushing the date into May. As for the Stop n Swop, I may buy Tooie, because I have Banjo-Kazooie on Arcade and Nuts and Bolts (with Lost Challenges DLC), so I want to see what it unlocks.

  • LOL Rabid Gophers

This is 200 MS point Community game is really fun. You get good looking 3 mini games. One you use Shotgun to shoot gophers, one you blow up gophers, and then my favorite, Snipe the gophers. The shotgun gophers is rather crazy. Once I get to 50 secons, I can't make mistake anymore. Any miss shot will leave no time to make a recover shot. Then after 60 seconds, I barely know I was doing. Almost like GeoWar instinct reaction kind of thing. Then, there is a sniper gopher. I don't have autofire controller, so it is rather challanging for me.For 200 MP points, it is way better than other community craps. :)

    Rant about multiplayer functionality

I got a hold of WWE Legends of Wrestlemania for 360, mainly for the nostalgia factor as I was 9 years oldback in the days of the first Wrestlemania. It's the first wrestling game I've played probably since the days of NES and I have to say it was good laughs reliving the gripping drama of Hulk Hogan vs King Kong Bundy in Wrestlemania 2--basically the 9/11 of my young life (for lack of a better metaphor).I promptly tell my buddy to get the game, so we can beat the pants out of each other. He doesn't even need to know the theme of the game, he's down with trading beat downs online any day. We're playing and we couldn't help but be totally annoyed by the fact that after a match was over you had to exit out, set the next match up all over again, and re-invite each other to play. It was ridiculous--it felt like we spent more time setting up matches than we did playing the game. Suffice it to say we're returning the game to Gamefly sooner than later. No matter what kind of game it is, a ''rematch now'' functionality should be built in to every multiplayer game. Every game should have a lobby where you and your opponent(s) are still together, and you can make some quick changes to the game if you wish, and jump right back in.You can kind of tell that they didn't spend a whole lot of time refining this WWE game anyways, which is a total shame and frankily it reflects badly on the franchise. Low quality video game =low quality World Wrestling Entertainment. An example of a superior multiplayer experience is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and World at War. Those two games totally totally bring it as far as multiplayer goes and that's a big part of their success. It's often on Gamespot these days you read about a game publisher going out of business. I think it's a good thing because too many studios are putting out a substandard product and I'm sick of wasting my time on them. That's also why I'll only rent games and almost never buy.Maybe someone in charge of a game studio will read this and catch a hint of what a mature gaming audience is looking for. We're increasingly stuck at home with our wives and kids and need awesome multiplayer games to hang out with our buddies. Thanks for reading.

    Falcon Chip v.s. Jasper Chip....

Well as you know most Xbox 360's on the market now have a Falcon Chip. If you dont know what it is just google it. But now they are taliking about a new and improverd chip called the Jasper. It is supposed to hit shelves in August. Do I wait for that chip to buy a 360? Or just get one now?Falcon Chip v.s. Jasper Chip....

Personally, I got the extended warranty because if my machine does die, I don't want to send it to MS who might send me a used 360. It's a small price to pay for the option of just going down to the store and getting a brand new machine. Heck man, if your machine dies in 1-2 years, you could get the Jasper with the bluray drive. :D Joking on the bluray thing but you get my point.
Since RRoD mainly comes from GPU, does this mean RRoDs are over?
You need to check on the Warranty. Dumb Microcenter conned me. Their warranty would only kick in AFTER Mr. Softy's warranty had expired. Then Mr. Softy extended the warranty for 3 years, making it a moot point. If your warranty allows you to directly take your broken Xbox to the store for a replacement, then I'd get one. Otherwise, it's useless as Mr. Softy will take care of it %26 you get to save a buck.

GTA4 must be your game%26#65281;And sure not other game could do if you really want ''Realism''.

    Bioshock

    GTA4

    Bioshock

    Far Cry 2

    Resident Evil 5

    Saint's Row 2

    Grand Theft Auto IV

    Mass Effect

    Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Oblivion and Fallout 3 look pretty good graphically to me...
    FALLOUT 3

    BIOSHOCK

    GTAIV
that seems kinda weird that you say that because although fallout and oblivion are not realistic they have much more realistic character models then most rpg games such as fable with its cartoony characters. but lately ive been playing fable 2, mass effect, and assassins creed.id say assassins creed gets to repetative after a little while so maybe no that.Orange box is great also. probably my favorite single player first person shooter (Half Life 2)
oblivions pretty good but for me it got old past level 6. some things in falout 3 may not be realistic like when u walk diagonaly it shows u wlaking forward but sliding to the side but the game is amazing the graphics are great, the voice acting is the best ive heard in a game and u can spend well over 100 hours in the game and the VATS with bloody mess perk never gets less amusing. fallout 3 is worth it but if ur tight on money dont get the dlc's bc i dont think theyr worth it
    Dead Space %26 TOV.
Mass effect fairly long or dead space about 12 hours long both are great games
Good single player games would be Mass Effect (about 20-30 hours depending on if you do side-quests), BioShock (about 20 hours, which is long for a shooter), The Orange Box (HL2, Ep1 and Ep2 should take like 20 hours, and Portal will take a few hours as well, all four are single player and fantastic). You can get Mass Effect for $20 brand new. The Orange Box will also be $20 brand new. BioShock will be $30 brand new. All three are truly fantastic and three of the best games from 2007.All three have great stories, great animations, great graphics and great gameplay. My favorite of the three is Mass Effect personally, but I can whole-heartedly recommend any of those three.I can also mention stuff like Fable 2, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden and others. But I don't know, you don't strike me as the kind of guy who'd enjoy those games. Something about you, I guess. :P
Grand Theft Auto IV is absolutely amazing. If you haven't played it yet, go for it.

You should like it better than Oblivion.
orange box, one of the best games you can buy (well 5 games). half life 2 (and the episodes) is probably one of the best games ever made, its fairly long too. theres also portal, which is short but different and really fun. and tf2, which is multilayer only

also gta4 if you havent got it. its great and when you dont feel like playing it, just muck around blowing stuff up. thats what i love about the gta series

  • e74 Warranty Question

Mt xbox died ten days ago and i sent it in on the 9th so will i get a new xbox and the 3 year warranty?e74 Warranty Question
You won't get a brand new warranty. If you've sent your 360 in any time since you got it due to the E74, and had to pay for the repair, you'll get the money back within 4-6 weeks. That's all.

Will I be able to get repairs?

Back in July of last year, my 360 was having problems regarding a supposed ''invalid serial number'' according to the ridiculous Xbox customer support. So after talking to about 13 people at Xbox and eventually getting a Microsoft agents email address, 3 mounths later I got it fixed... almost. When I got my 360 back I instantly noticed something very bad: One of the four green light on the front of the console was COMPLETELY BROKEN! Ya, if you turn it on with one controller NONE of the lights come on.So here's my question: If I ever get the RROD, will all 3 lights actually be showing so I can get it repaired? I'm very worried that if my xbox ever dies with an RROD, it will be trying to show 3 red lights, but will fail. Miserably. Possibly only showing 2 red lights. The REALLY funny thing is that I can very easily fake an RROD by unplugging the A/V cable, It shows 3 instead of 4!Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

You can try Bulber's Gates on Xbox and PS2. Then there is a Bard's Tale on Xbox. And you have the Marvel Alliance Series on Xbox and Xbox360. Most of top down dungeon RPG is pretty much using the Marvel Alliance formula, a squad based game.
I know what you mean. I love that game, but you can play only so much of it. (think I played it for 3 years non stop)But anyway... I dont know of any X360 games that are like it. The Marvel games are more of a stripped down arcade version, I dont think they are comparable at all to Diablo. Titan Quest is very similar, game mechanics are identical and its a great game. Its only on PC though.

I want an JRPG that takes a LONG time to beat, has some replay to boot. Both games look great but I can only buy one right now---Which is the better buy?

TOV I have 60 hours into it still have to play it for the secret stuff. Very Good game!
Star Ocean, it has 3 discs and has alot of extra stuff in the game
I thought Tales of Vesperia was better due to the fact that Star ocean takes longer for the story to really pick up and i preferred the characters in TOV.
Star Ocean, it has 3 discs and has alot of extra stuff in the game
It's not in the no. of discs a game has. If it's garbage i wouldn't even play it for an hour. Star Ocean does look to have an inane amount of stuff to do in it....

This is a pain, Wish I could just buy both.

The game is good but it just falls short of being on the same level as TOV even though the combat is a lot more addictive.
My advice is to buy Tales of Vesperia, and this is why:1) I own the game and have played some of it, and I found it to be enjoyable and have good HD graphics and gameplay. It is better than Symphonia also, I think.2) TOV is cheaper than SO, which means you can buy TOV now and already have a couple dollars left over to help you get a small kick-start towards buying the other game if you want to.3) TOV has been around for a year or so now, therefore it will probably be slightly more difficult to find than a new copy of Star Ocean 4.4) Both games have similar action-based battle systems, so regardless of which game you choose, you will undoubtably wind up with a similar battle system.5) TOV sold more successfully than did SO, and has garnished more applauds from both the American and Japanese gaming audience for its graphics, story and gameplay. SO didn't do horribly, but the game only managed to stay on the Japanese top ten list for a split-second before being wiped out by Nintendo and Sony console games.6) The opening sequence for TOV, while pop-music-ish, is actually a nice touch and gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling whenever I start up the game. It will kinda stick with you I think, whenever you think about the game. So, there ye have it.

Mass Effect and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 are both good games under $20. If you can spend the extra $10 you can get Oblivion, which is a great game.
    how's chromehounds?
you can't go wrong with The Orange Box or Burnout Paradise
burnout paradise is lots of fun. GRAW2 is really fun too.. only thing is that its really short.

    Good CUSTOM themes?

Hey, just wondering if anyone here had any suggestions as far as pictures from their PCs that look good as the background for the NXE? Iam really tired of the provided ones, and I absoultey REFUSE to buy these stupid things...Share Your ideas, and if you can, give links to the pics!Good CUSTOM themes?
Well the picture I'm currently using is Misa Amane from Death Note. Last time I had a Gears of War 2 background... I have pictures of whatevers my favourite thing of the moment! Hahaha! I do think some Windows Vista wallpapers do look nice as a background for your 360 though. Here's a couple that I personally like:

OXM magazine is giving out themes on their demo discs now and usually have gamerpics on them and have for many many months, and they are great bathroom reading. Just if ur in canada, subscribe. A year (13 issues) is the same price as 2-3 mags off the stand.

OMIGODYOUSUCKYOUKILLEDMEIHATEYOUThat's what annoys me, I hear more people that are HIGH skill getting ripped on than noobs.
when i say skill it doesnt really have to mean real good, it can mean u suck too.
The only time I argue with people or say mean things... is when someone does something extremely stupid... like I will be playing Socom Confrontation over on my PS3... the game will be demolition... some idiot will camp in the spawn the whole game be the last person alive until the enemy plants the bomb... then this idiot walks over to the wrong base...I just don't understand how people are that stupid... there is a big giant marker on your HUD with a huge arrow pointing at the plant site with big huge letters over it that say DEFUSE... yet these idiots completely ignore that... In those situations I either talk all kinds of *poop*... or I just convince everyone in the game that the player is worthless and we vote him out...
Well, in Halo, as in other games but Halo the most, after I completely destroy people they complain how I'm a BK (bad kid). So I don't know, I guess people are just making up for their lack of being able to say ''Good game.''

They updated this to make it bigger, but it should never have been so small in the 1st place.

Now i do like the old ones more, but when your like 10 when they come out of course they will be good. But it is harder to compare this new one because it is a lot less of True Platformer and more of a hybrid between party/platformer/racing. I love the new game, but the older ones were much, much better.
i also perfer the old ones and i HATE the small font!!!!!!!but those and the 2 big ones
I like the older ones much better. I can't wait for Banjo Tooie to come out on XBLA.
I prefer the older games, but BK NB was an awesome game.
100 times betterThe old games are playable but once again it was just Rare piggybacking on what was going on at the time using someone's ideas. This time around they made something unique from the ground up
They are totally incomparable. It would be like comparing Mario Kart to Mario Galaxy. They are different games in the same ''universe''.

I think Nuts and Bolts was a step in the right direction, in terms of pushing an old franchise forward.
They're both good games (at theleast), but I prefer the older games when comparing how much fun I get out of them.
THE TEXT IS SO MUCH BETTER AFTER THE UPDATE. ALOT MORE FUN
To those complaining about the small font, it has been fixed now.

I never played the old ones so im going to have to go with Banjo Kazooie nuts and bolts.
I don't think you can really can compare, because Nuts and bolts is totally different from the previous ones. However, I would say that I like it more, because playing the old ones feels very outdated. The graphics are superb, and the worlds are very immersive and well-done. But, there are things that I liked about the old ones more, such as the simple feel and gameplay that was still very fun. Nuts and Bolts is very complicated. A young child could play the original ones with ease, but it takes an older person to do well in Nuts and Bolts.
I like all three games, but you can't really compare them because they don't have the same type of gameplay. I think everyone can agree that they would like a future Banjo-Kazooie game, if one is ever made, tofeature a modern version of the classic gameplay. But still, I think Banjo and Kazooie is just the property for RARE to use to make new and unusual platforming games as well.
anyone who had an n64 would say old. like me
I like it better. I love Nuts %26 Bolts. But the classics arn't far behind. The only thing I don't like about N%26B is having to make a vehicle for EVERY challenge
Nuts %26 Bolts was enjoyable.... it just wasn't that great.Actually, I found some of it quite frustrating. The physics are a bit annoying.
I like Nuts and Bolts. It's innovative, and Rare perfected the car creation tool. However, with the Banjo Kazooie games on the 64 being some of my favourite games ever, I have to say old. The vehicle based gameplay is great for what it is, sure, but it isn't Banjo Kazooie. I hope that Banjo's next entry is a platformer with a Rare twist.

I say it'll be $60 because all Microsoft cares about is money.
Hey, the same could really be said about Nintendo and Sony as well, or really any major company, gaming and other.
im a halo hater. and im 90% sure im not gonna be getting it.

    RE5 versus mode

Do you think this versus mode is worth its price tagI read somewhere that the DLC is already on the disc and you cant still walk and shoot at the same time leading to to people standing in front of each other shooting or running round the stag echasing each otherRE5 versus mode
I think its worth it. Its only $5 and your getting a whole new portion of the game. Its alot of fun to play around with.RE5 versus mode
i don't think so because it came out like a month later when the game came out. the game is already on the disc. it doesn't sound to fun because of how the game plays.
Actually, the content is NOT already on the disc. It's not adding any new models/maps/guns/characters so basically it's just a code telling the game what goes where and how to use it. The Versus mode is definitely worth the $5 IMO and even if it wasn't, it's only $5. If you like mercenaries, buy the versus mode, as it is basically the same thing.
Actually it is on the disc they just send you a code to unlock it heres the link

This article is a bit more recent. If it WERE just an unlock key, it would be quite a bit less than 1.8MB, more like 80KB.

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/capcom-re5-versus-isnt-just-a-key
It's fun, but it's not worth $5 for just a versus mode. It should have been included in the game.
charging money for a versus multiplayer = fail. Online multiplayer should always be free.

What if games like Halo 3 or Call of Duty charged extra just so you could play online? What makes Resident Evil so special that Capcom feels the need to charge extra just so you could play versus multiplayer?

    360 Controller HELP!

Well I can't seem to find any help on this topic anywhere else so here it goes.

I bought a new Xbox 360 controller and I want it to be in the Player 1 spot. I can't seem do find out how to disconnect my old controller and reconnect my new one so that it will be Player 1. Does anyone know how to do this?360 Controller HELP!
take the batteries out of your first controller. turn on the console using the face button and reconnec as normal.360 Controller HELP!
well wat u do is you disconnect all controllers by holding that big middle button until an option is their to turn off controller or u can simple pull out the battery. then the controller you want to be player 1 u turn on first.
I know whats wrong. You have a brand new controller so the first thing you have to do is sync it with your xbox. Turn on only the xbox and your new controller.

Push and hold for about 1 second the little ))) button next to the memory card b slot on the xbox. Then push and hold the same ))) button on your controller - its on the top between the LB and RB buttons. The circles will then spin in sync.

Once this is done just use the new controller to turn on the xbox and it will be player 1.

  • My new Jasper Scratched a Disc

I own a new Jasper (made sure after 4 replaced x-boxes). We have had it for 2 weeks.

Lo and behold it scratched a disc. I have had xboxes with faulty dvd/no video/red ring of death and I had heard of the scratching but figured they would have sorted that out in the new Japser.

I can confirm we didn't move it - we only pressed the eject button to insert the disc - and straight away it made a big noise. We took out the disc and it had a lovely ring scratch all around it.

We have it in a stable cabinet and after having had 4 xboxes we are VERY careful with it.

I honestly don't get it - MS insists this only happens if you move it but I have worked for and with PC hardware manufacturers for years with laptops and PCs and I have NEVER seen a PC or laptop scratch a disc like this even if they are moved while in operation.

I have only seen PC discs getting scratched when your 2yr old puts in more than 1?

So my question is - even if the xbox is moved (lets face it if you try to plug in a charging cord or bang something near it) why should it scratch the disc like that?

And yes before you make the comment - you should have bought a playstation instead of another xbox - well we already own heaps of games for the xbox and use it as a media center extender so its just not that easy to change once you are this far along. My new Jasper Scratched a Disc
sounds like you bumped it to me, no matter what it was PS3 or Xbox same thing would of happened.it sucks bad but i dont think u go start a lynch mob yet, it does suck but its the same with computers except computers are much bigger and take more force to bump.Chalk it up to bad luck because you could of bumped it the same way 20 times and it not happend but i dont think this is the disc scratching problem everyone else is talking about.hope it dont happen again or atleast u get lucky and have it come out scratch freeMy new Jasper Scratched a Disc
I've never had a game that got a ring scratch in my console yet...but someone returned one of my games with one, it's a good thing I ddin't want to play that game anymore... anyway, I don't know why the games scratch so often for people, moving the console around is no excuse,... is it the lens being too close to the disc that makes the scratch?
u must have pressed the eject button to hard. i know i do it and luckily all the times of doing it, the disc don't get scratched. a person moving the 360 while it's on it just says the disc is going to get scratched. One time me and my friends were playing halo 3. i had my xbox and my friend and his brother/another friend were on the same xbox on the same tv. it was my friend and i against his brother. i just said this is BS because we kept on dieing. so i pressed the power button really hard and it made a noise. i just o crap, hopefully halo is OK. the game didn't have a scratch on it.
3 games of mine have ring scratches.
I just have bought myself a Jasper too, but I hope something similar won't happen to me...For all those people saying that 'he must have pushed the eject button too hard'; that's really a lame excuse.. Normal dvd drives have small rubber cushions installed to prevent the disc touching the lens. For example the exact same Toshiba disc drive for PC does have the rubber pads, but the 360 one does not. Those things don't cost a thing. Even when multiplied by all the faulty consoles...IMO, the only reason MS didn't include those rubber pads yet is the fact that then they would basically admit that the original disc drive was not designed properly..Here's hoping I won't get scratched disks :?
I can 100% confirm it wasn't moved at the time of scratching. I injected the disc but it didn't start scratching it until about 10 seconds after it was injected so I wasn't touching the console at the time. You could tell because it made a terrible noise.

Regardless we have had 4 other xboxes over the last few years and moved or not none of those have ever scratched any discs. We have also had kids playing with it constantly - so if they were going to be scratched because of moving then it would have already occurred. I mean it is very easy to move the unit when plugging in the charging cable and how many people shutdown their game and the system to do that? Yeah Right!

Like I said I have worked with PCs for years - I worked for PC/laptop manufacturers and for some of that I was a technician and some running a production/testing environment - and I have seen tons of wierd things but I have never seen a disc scratched like that before. Believe you me - we moved plenty of computers while they were in operation ourselves and never had any issues - and yes I am referring to desktops and MT etc. We would often move them from horizontal to vertical while running the cds. I am talking thousands of systems here. If a small bump is all that is required to make a scratch like that then surely we would have seen it!

I think it must be a design fault on certain models. Obviously I can't rip this one apart and compare it to my older RROD unit which didn't scratch discs - though I would like to!

In all fairness after arguing with MS they say I can take it back for a straight swap for a new one from where I bought it (the unit is only 2 weeks old). They are also sending me out a replacment game free of charge. I am concerned though because obviously if I go back for a swap now the unit I get in replacement will almost certainly be from the same batch and therefore be subject to the same problem.
Why do I get the feeling that this is the only thread you will ever post in? I really don't likepeople that startnew accounts so that they can bash a console.I'll make a deal with you. Get your alternate account to 100 posts, then I will believe you. OK!
Geez get a life. I am not xbox bashing. I told you I already went through 4 but yet I just bought another one! Would I do that if I was just out to xbox bash? I made sure I had a 3rd party extra warranty though - because only 1 of my original 4 faulty xboxes had the RROD.

We LOVE our xbox360. It looks great at 1080p. I am dissapointed with all the issues though - our orignal xbox lastest 7 years without a hitch.

Someone on another thread asked if the Jasper had any problems with disc scratching - I couldn't post into that thread because it was locked so I started a new one.

I thought it would be interesting to people to know that the disc scratching problem does not apear to be solved.

I don't usually bother to post on game forums - because I don't spend all my life playing games. I just figured it was a community service to let people know that these problems still exist and no it is not just them and not their imagination.

For the record the build date on my faulty Jasper was 9th Jan 09.

Ok can I please get this out of the way before I begin to ask, I know how to insert a AV Cable from an Xbox 360 to a TV, and I haven't changed any settings at all from the Xbox Dashboard... I'm just saying this just to make sure no-one asks those questions.

A friend of mine was playing Oblivion on his Xbox when me %26 him suddenly saw what appeared to be blue silhouettes from wherever a NPC or object had just moved. He switched the Xbox off incase it was just a slight problem with the AV cable, and about an hour later turned it back on to find that he could only hear the sounds of the Xbox Dashboard, but no visual... he's tried everything from buying a brand new AV Cable, to using 2 different TVs... yet the problem remains. Can anyone tell us what's happened? He doesn't really want to send it back to Microsoft as he bought it on the release date so it's waaay past his warranty... Plus he said he'd rather pay for a new one rather than get it repaired... he's wierd in that way. Thanks.Sound... but no visual? Can this be fixe ...
There can be 2 cases I can think of:

    1. You have the odd error where you must boot your 360 twice to get picture. I've had this lately but now it's gone.

    2. Your Graphics-card is dead.

Note that these are only what I can come up with.Sound... but no visual? Can this be fixe ...

Well it can't be the 1st case as I've switched it on and off many times... If it's the 2nd one... Ouch! Thanks for this though.
i had the same problem last year and i had to send in my 360 to microsoft and they gave me a different one and i never had that problem since. I think you should do the same man.
Its a known (but not acknowledged) issue. It appears to be related to the RROD. Basically the graphics chip gets overheated and dislodges or gets cracks causing it to fail. He might have had lock ups previously with funny colours/lines. Sometimes it will just work again after a while, sometimes not. I have had 2 systems do this to me. One just failed and that was it - no graphics but you can hear the startup sounds, when plugged into HDMI it woudn't start at all - I had it replaced under warranty. Another did it also but would work again in a while but each time it got worse. Eventually that system gave the RROD.

If you're within 3 years then a little heat should probably make it RROD which would make it covered by MS.

Say sorry to your friend for me - its heartbreaking I know.

Condemned game stopping glitch + save gl ...

I really enjoyed Condemned - Criminal Origins on the 360 (although it's a glitchy, glitchy, unpatched game) and I played it to chapter 9, the Orchard Farm, where you have to infra-red for the pieces of the riddle around the house. I encountered a game stopping bug in the attic though, and I can't proceed :( :So, I smash the attic door lock with the sledgehammer, go upstairs, turn left, reach the next room and there are wooden planks blocking the path. I get attacked by an illusory enemy, I defeat him and after that I read on several guides the planks should disappear... but they don't. It only worked once but then the game glitched out and sent me back to the main menu and I had to restart. I tried reloading a checkpoint, I tried restarting the chapter. Nothing. Any way to bypass this?Second bug, I swear it's a weird, weird bug: I once resumed playing and the game loaded a checkpoint that wasn't mine... it was from a level I hadn't been to yet and in a situation I had never been into. This happened in two separate occasions. Also, as I said earlier, the game glitched on level 9 and corrupted my checkpoint and since then I got the attic glitch.Help? Anybody? :(Condemned game stopping glitch + save gl ...
    Ouch.

I didn't come across either bug when I played the first Condemned, but in the last level of the second game I quit, went to bed, and came back the next day to finish off the game only to find out my save had bugged. It was still present (as far as my 360 was concerned) but the game was convinced I hadn't played a single level. The only solution where was, unfortunately, to start all over.

Tomb Raider Legend had a similar game-stopping bug with the sea serpent fight - if you tried using the pillars prior to the fight you'd bug things up and the only way to fix it was delete your save and start over.

I have a feeling that might be the only solution for you as well, which sucks. Game breaking bugs are a great way to instantly tarnish otherwise great game experiences. :(Condemned game stopping glitch + save gl ...
Great... why didn't they address the problem in all this time? I mean, we're in the patch age, for crying out loud! Oh wait, it's Sega... let's lose hope then

    Is xbl required?
XBL is required in that you need the update that allows you to be able to install to the hard drive. I think that update came out at the end of fall.
U need the New Xbox Experience. If u connect the console to the internet it'll download and install it, u don't need XBL gold.

Ok so I bought my 360 used and Im not sure whether I have a bad controller, bad controller battery, bad charger (I thinks its a cheap third party one), or bad ports on the console...I was playing earlier today and it had 3 bars, then I go to play it just now it's not charging when plugged in and all the xbox button on the controller does is keep doing that spinning wheel thing. And if it's not plugged in it'll just turn off, but it won't even charge when plugged in...Controller acting crazy! Please help!
Well its hard to say for sure exactly what is not working - do you have another controller/battery or charging cable you can test with?

The battery would be the best guess - they will die eventually - BUT even if they are dead it should still try to charge it - the charge just won't last long.

So when you plug in the charging cable do you get any red light on the controller end of the cable at all?

You could also try regular AA batteries it the controller just to test.Controller acting crazy! Please help!

    1. if you think it's the controller, simply go to wal mart, buy a new one, swap the busted one with the new one, then return it. they will return basically anything. the old lady's behind the desk DON'T really care that much.2. if you still have the receipt for the controller and 360 or however you ended up buying it... do the same thing as above. go to the store, show them your receipt and explain what is going on. I'm sure the manager or someone else will gladly switch controllers if you explain to them this one is glitchy. or even a system if it proves to be the problem. if not- then you got ripped off big time :)3. use different batteries (like mentioned before), or take the controller to a friends place that has a 360 to test it.it sounds like you have real crappy batteries though... just do ANYTHING to test it out.4. seriously... what do you think we're going to tell you? YOU BEGIN BY REMOVING THE BACK PANEL OF THE XBOX 360 STARTING WITH THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER. CAREFULLY REMOVE IT AND MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED OFF... or something like REMOVE BACK OF CONTROLLER AND BEGIN TO STRIP AWAY THE WIRING TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY SHORTS IN THE CIRCUITRY... i mean come on... these things don't require that much thought to figure something like this out. if you bought it used from a friend you are screwed. if you bought it used from a store chances are you'll be ok. and like i said you can always do the wal mart trick they really won't care.5. think about posting stuff like this because seriously it's annoying when some people can't solve there own problems and like to get help from other people... would you like to super size your HELP ME?

Help with Soldier of Fortune: Payback

I need some help on the game. On Mission 5 where you have to destroy the oil pipeline I run into a problem. My mission target symbols lite up on the soldier I have to kill the enemy shooting RPG's at me and the Pipeline pump in the middle. Ok I take out all three of these then I have no more mission targets. I went on youtube for a walkthrough to see what I was doing wrong and I did what the walkthrough did and I had the same problem. I went into the cave to destroy the pipeline but the explosives never show up or the symbol does not show up. So I go on the other end thinking you have to go in some order and the explosives never show up there either. Am I missing something? Could someone help pleaseHelp with Soldier of Fortune: Payback
Check on both sides of the pipes. The red becons showing you where to place the explosives are very weak you have to be right up on them, I think there are 3 places where you plant explosives if my memory serves me correct.Help with Soldier of Fortune: Payback
I have replayed that checkpoint over and over again and the same thing the middle one is the only place where the beacons show up. I have looked all over the place right up on the place where they are suppose to be and nothing is there. Am I suppose to pick up the explosives somewhere? I do exactly what the walkthrough does but it does not show up like it suppose to.
I figured it out. For some reason when I replay the last checkpoint it would not give me the target beacon but I went back and replayed the level and it corrected whatever was wrong. It was most likely a glitch in the game which I have found others in the game as well. Thanks for all your help.
Save yourself the time and just get rid off it.

SOF:Payback was the worst game i have ever played.

The whole game revolves around character unbalances and who can be the cheapest. But I am a huge fan of fighting games (Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter) and I was wonder, is Street Fighter 4 like Turbo HD Remix in gameplay? Are they like the same thing but with different graphics or is it very different? It is a LOT slower paced. Seriously. It is still pretty much about who can do the most hadokens and be the cheapest. Arcade mode is also hard as hell too. I bought it quite impulsively and regret buying it. I haven't played it since a few days after I got it.Is Street Fighter IV like Turbo HD Remix ...
I feel like you all are completely missing the strategy behind it. Seriosuly SF2 is a mind game, you have to learn to read what your opponent is going to do. When people use a ton of hadoukens it's a filler attack. You can't just run and jump at somebody who's Ken or Ryu or they'll use shoryuken to no end. Every character has combos that seem cheap but it only seems that way when the user is good most of the time and uses them effectively. That being said, E. Honda and Chun Li really are pretty cheap when they can end in their flurry attacks or whatever the hell they're called. Anyways on topic, SF4 is much much slower and is a lot more technical. In my opinion more balanced overall but the new characters suck for the most part.

Not Abel or Crimson Viper. They're really good and solid additions. Also, guys who are good with Rufus can kick some butt. El Fuerte is considered the worst, but some guys can do really well with him.

And Street Fighter IV is the best fighting game this gen so far, and arguably the best fighting game ever made. You have to be a SF fan or a fighting fan to appreciate it. If you think you can just pick it up and ''get it'' right away, you're dead wrong because a game like this requires some dedication and some commitment to get the most out of it. For me, for instance, I'm not a beginner by any means but I still get my butt kicked. But the difference between someone like me and a player who just gives up is just that, I don't give up. I still love the game and still consider SFIV my favorite next-gen game so far.

True SF fans love it...but I can't tell you or decide for you whether you'll love it or not. It will depend. You just have to play it for yourself and see if you will or not.
I am a Street Fighter nut and I can say that both games are spectacular. It is true that they have their fair share of similarities. Many characters in each game are the same, many moves are the same, and the general feel of the games are similar as they are both part of the Street Fighter universe. However, each game's mechanics are quite different. There are a number of improvements to the overall formula that is reflected in Street Fighter IV. Both games have excellent ballance but they have a different feel between them. The fluidity of movement in SFIV is vastly superior to SSFIITHDR. There are also very different strategies involved in both games.I'm not saying one is better than the other. Both games are in my collection and hold a special place in my heart. Street Fighter IV is truly a next-gen fighter while Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is a very welcome update of an already classic title. Online play in both games is spectacular and they are both hardcore fighters. Street Fighter IV may be a little more welcome to new comers than SSFIITHDR would be. There is a much more in-depth training mode with it and there are more characters. Also, a lot of fun unlockables are with the newer game. SSFIITHDR is more atuned to the hardcore of hardcore fighters. It was redone by hardcore fighters for hardcore fighters. It is much more cost effective at this point but there is more with SFIV so the value argument is a toss up.All things considered, you can't go wrong with either title. I recommend downloading the demo of SSFIITHDR to see if you think you can handle it. If it meets with your liking, then go ahead and get it because it's much cheaper. If, however, you are looking for the more current game and want to get the newest of the craze, Street Fighter IV is the way to go. Both games are incredible and I highly suggest getting both if you're a fan. Also, get a joystick or a 6-button controller. Playing with the standard 360 controller is terrible and you will get your ass handed to you in a fight against someone properly armed with the right controller.
^^ Yes. Street Fighter IV is more fine-tuned and vastly superior in playability. Plus it feels fresh and not a evolution but a true sequel because of all those extra features and improvements.

SSFII Turbo HD to me is more nostalgia than competitive play. Probably because guys here are really good and I can't compete, LOL! But I love the game because it's one of my favorite childhood games that is remade with beautiful new artwork.

So both to me feel like the ultimate gift for long time Street Fighter fans. This gen is awesome but SSFII Turbo HD and SFIV made this gen perhaps one of the best ever.
Rock Paper Scissors is also a strategy game, but that doesn't mean theres much skill to it. But I find that no matter what I do people keep using Hadoukens repeatedly. So I guess I'm not going to get this game if its not too different.

It's a completely different game, but by looking at your posts you probably should not get the game. You would be one of those who say 'the game is too difficult therefore it is garbage'. If people keep using Hadoukens against you, you're probably not very skilled. Carefully timing jumps over hadoukens followed by a Fierce punch or kick will usually slow down the fireballs (coming for ken or ryu). And for you to even suggest that street fighter has strategy but no skill further shows me that you should not get this. You will get demolished online or by the cpu on easy and will want your money back. Save your money, time, and embarassment for Tekken

I never said that you didn't like sf4 because you were bad at it. In fact, you never played it so you nor I would know if you like it or not. The comments I made in my post were based on your post as well as all the other people I hear complaining about sf4. If you take a look at the threads about sf4 on this site, a good 99% of the time, people don't like the game because it's too difficult for them. You're complaints seem invalid to me b/c it is very easy to take out a hadouken spammer. Plus, someone made a comment about the strategy involved in sf4 and commented back with ''smart'' remark. Making it seem as if sf4 has no strategy. I don't understand how you compare rock, scissors, paper to sf4. That remark about RSP is why I started to talk about your skill level...

you're exactly right, I agree with everything you have said ;)
oi, tell me which fighting game doesnt require strategy, skills and timing to win? street fighter is about patience, if ppl spamming hadoken at you and theres nothing you can do about it, that mean you need practice. because you saw it, you learn the pattern and eventually skillful ppl will kill the hadoken spammer? as for the akuma air hadoken, if you really want the easy way about it is use high jump char or fast char, basically any char is almost balance to any other char in that game even zangief the slowest s.o.b can beat akuma.so with all that said and other opinions about this game as well you should be able to make decisions. it is slower but that gives you more time to think strategically.
ill admit that there are probably more ways of being cheap in street fighter over every other way but you can never say that you cant do anything about it. if you are a truly skilled street fighter fan the spammers are probably the easiest people to beat because thats all they know how to do so its so easy to work around. just keep playing online and build a stradegy to every form of spam there is and you will just destroy them. then eventually you'll find an actual good fight and then the game is even more fun.
if you are a truly skilled street fighter fan the spammers are probably the easiest people to beat because thats all they know how to do so its so easy to work around
Well said!!
I think there was really no point to release turbo remix in the first place, since Hyper Fighting is already on ARCADE with online play, and it came out so close to when 4 came out - and just from images andvideosyou can tell that 4 is vastly superior to it. I am still getting 4, just because I respect Capcom that much and think Street Fighter is a true classic, and also it's cool to see all of the original characters in the game along with Sakura, Dan and the other Alpha characters. The new fighters don't seem that bad, but some of them seem really out of place - especially the mexican wrestler guy and Crimson Viper.
Why did you come here and start telling me about what I can do to improve when what I was asking is, if I didn't like Turbo Remix, would I like SFIV? End of story, I don't want to hear why my opinion is wrong, how bad I am, or how it is better than the games I like. Now my question has been answered so please don't start this topic up again.

But I am one to talk, I am horrible at playing Street Fighter. *laughs* Still like it though.
It's actually pretty balanced. I see people playing with the unpopular characters %26 being successfull with them against the traditional characters w/c is not in the case in SF games before it. With the right strategy the game balances out very good maybe you're not just good with the game.

We were saying things like SFIV is the best fighting game this gen, we said it was balanced, we said it's a great game. It wasn't us that started to tell you all that other stuff. It seems like you already made up your mind and said SFIV wasn't for you and started to defend your point saying things like Tekken is better and criticizing SFIV for being a hadouken spamming game that's imbalanced. You also implied that SFIV has no strategy from your relpy on the rock paper scissor explanation. So did you make this post to debate why SFIV is worse than your favorite games like Mortal Kombat or Tekken or did you really want us to recommend SFIV to you?Since you said those negative things about SFIV, we're just defending the game.
