Alone in the Dark is the worst game I pl ...

I purchased Alone in he Dark yesterday, I returned it today. I heard some heavy criticism in the past year, but I wanted to decide for myself. Result: I think that game is a disgusting pile of trash. The camera is atrocious: you can't freely rotate it and sometimes it will refuse to tilt up and down, so you won't be able to study your surroundings. You can toggle a first person view, but it's so slow and clunky it's a pain to use. The character handles like a broken tank, in the attempt to copycat Resident Evil 4's control scheme, they created a mess, where you will often move in the opposite direction than expected. The combat is dreadful: there's more action in children playing tag than in the broken lock on fighting mechanic, where you have to pick up objects and awkwardly swing them to hit your enemies. It's slow, it's unsatisfying and you can't counter enemy attacks, so it's pointless. The game also features half baked Prince of Persia climbing sections, but they are so poorly executed they require a huge amount of trial and error to traverse them.
Finally, the driving section, the rotten cherry on this huge crap cake: you have to speed through a crumbling New York, dodging traffic and falling buildings to reach central park, while chased by a big crack acting as a time limit. Unfortunately this section is so broken it's just unplayable: the road will break at random, causing your car to get stuck everywhere and to flip 50 feet in the air for no reason, also, mess up once and you have to start over. That's all I could push myself to playing, I don't know if the game gets better later on and I don't care: the first hour was so painful I can't just wait for the store to open tomorrow to return this game. It's so awful it puts its prequels to shame and so bad even the Uwe Boll movies can't compare.Did anyone hate it as I did?Alone in the Dark is the worst game I pl ...
Yeah it's pretty bad. Especially the melee controls. What where they thinking? I remember how hyped this game was last year. It didn't do so well. lol Could have been better if they tweaked the controls.

I bought it for $10 used. I don't regret the purchase. It's bad but playable. I'll finish it someday.Alone in the Dark is the worst game I pl ...
i'll just say this.......... you should have RENTED the game first. and at least the game has been out a while so it couldn't have cost you very much.personally i liked the demo. i thought it wasnt bad.
I feel the same way man worst game of all time for me.

I thought it was atrocious. Survival horror should make you dread encounters because of a lack of resources, or because of a daunting atmosphere. This game makes you dread them because you know full well that the control scheme isn't up to it!
The funny thing is I actually enjoyed the game. I however hated the driving.
Say what you want about Alone In The Dark, but that game had potential. Yeah, I played it and instantly experienced problems from camera controls and the movement of your character, to the horrible driving handling and the akward combat controls. All this said, I've yet to see another horror/thriller game that dares to experiment with interesting (if flawed) things such as the hotwiring of the car or the scene of a hotel building falling to pieces from below your characters feet as you're trying to reach another safe point. I mean seriously, even Capcom didn't dare stray too far from the Resident Evil 4 mechanics when number 5 was finally created. And no, I'm not saying Res 5 was a bad game, I love it, but they could've added something 'new' rather than just the co-op and the new story.

Yeah, Alone In The Dark is what you could call ''an experiment gone wrong'', it's not the best game on the next gen consoles, it's far from it, but it was great to play a game that had those really cool cinematic moments.

The the TC, some of your points are true, but at the end of the day you even said you heard all the criticism yet you still bought it, it's to be expected, you should've rented... unlucky.

I agree. I actually enjoyed the game!

I bought it and returned it, so I lost no money on that heap of trash.

I agree with you that some scenes were good (the crumbling hotel) and the fire propagation is half decent, so the game can be defined a failed experiment. What pisses me off, though, is the pounding advertising campaign Atari launched, even knowing the game was an unfinished mess. Had they put part of the advertising budget into six more months of development the game would have been different and instead of a horrible title we may be discussing maybe not a classic, but a solid game at the very least.
I totally disagree, Its far from the worst game on xbox. um I prefer it to gears of war 2 actually and how could it be worse than those lame movie game spinoffs, or stuff like legendary, etc. But maybe Im the minority. I loved the scenery, walking around in the dark finding monsters. There was one really tough driving sequence that prob took me over 10 tries, and I bet its the one you gave up on the game with. Shame. But I loved the original AITD, so im biased, it beat the new nightmare. And I loved the inventory/healing system. Totally different from any game to date.
Yeah Alone in the Dark is a pretty bad game. My main points of criticism are the driving and the camera as well. I found it especially irritating that if you went into a cut scene in first person perspective it automatically changed back to third person after the cut scene was finished. Also the cars handled like boats stuck on the land... just terrible. I played the game from start to finish nevertheless, but after I acquired the last achievement I gladly put it in the shelve, never to take it out again. What a relief. :P
My copy of the game glitched at the end of the driving level. When you are supposed to crash through the window at the end of that section, the game would always glitch and kill me for some reason. I had no desire to continue playing after that so I got rid of the game and haven't thought about it since.

If it wasn't for these problems already stated in the game, I would've probably bought the 'Special Limited Edition' game for only ?0... I wonder why it was that much though... haha. It's not a game I'd ever buy again, but like I said, it was good to see some unseen experiments being made to a game.
I was about to order Alone for 10$ but my mom saw that big 18+ on the boxart :( If the game is just more of the demo it MUST be good, well maybe not the driving sequences but it's overlookable
i thought it was pretty good, aside from subpar contols. horrible driving parts, and poor story climaxmost people shouldnt have their opinion heard, i mean it wasnt good, but its hardly as bad as some people make it out to beexaggerating is one thing, but worst game ever? i hear that too often, thats why i rarely pay any attention to anyones reviews

If the game goes on sale for $20 or $30, I would buy it, because I think it's a nice, distinct game compared to others. And RE5 is also a great game.

And where are you guys buying this game for only $10?
Just think there are acutally worse games.
I rented it and I thought it was decent. It did entertain me at some points (I thought combining stuff was cool). The controls were awkward at times but they're not ''game-breaking''. Worst game ever? Hardly.
i own both 360 and ps3 systems i havent tried alone in the dark for 360 but i bought it for ps3 and i actually think the game is fun....sure they could have made it alot better but its not ''the worst game ever''
